Coast Guard Rowing Challenge: H.P. Kirkham Rescue
They'll be rowin' while its blowin'!
Witness the Brant Point Station Coast Guard tackle a demanding 30-mile outdoor winter rowing challenge, a tribute to the heroic Coskata Surfmen, who battled freezing seas for 26 hours to save the souls aboard the H.P. Kirkham shipwreck.
The Shipwreck & Lifesaving Museum will be open, with tours available to dive deeper into the story of the harrowing 1892 rescue mission. Plus, starting at 2:45?p.m., kids can jump into hands-on afterschool fun with scavenger hunts, heaving stick demos, and surfboat crafts that bring the action to life.
This is a drop-in event—come for the full 2.5-hour challenge to cheer on the Coast Guard or stop by for just a bit! Hot cocoa, coffee, and tea will be served.
Museum admission is free or by donation for this community program.
