Hensley Services
In honor of Black History Month, we're spotlighting #ACKChamber Black Owned Businesses! We asked Lovell Hensley of Hensley Services a few questions, here are his answers!
Q: How long have you been in business/in your industry?
A: I have been in business for twenty-nine years; I first started the technology business and then the cleaning service business six months after.
Q: How would you describe your business or services?
A: Hensley Services has lived by one strategy for the past 29 years, and that is to build long-term relationships with our clients.
Q: As a black person entering the industry, how were you received in the industry as you were starting your business vs your treatment now?
A: Being the only computer store, things were different then. The demand was very high. Most people didn't care about what race you were. They wanted a computer to build back in those days. Computers were costly to buy so the easiest way to own a computer was to have a custom-built computer.
The cleaning service business was booming then. There weren't many cleaning services then. Overall, my experience has been great with both companies because I focus on being me and thinking positive all the time.
Q: Who is the most influential black person throughout history in your life, and why?
A: Frederick Douglass because as a former slave, he stayed true to himself and proved that you could be anything you want to be if you believe in yourself.
Q: To what do you attribute your success?
A: Being professional and trusting my instincts.
Q: Why do you think it's important to support other black owned businesses?
A: I believe if it was solely up to the patronage of the black race, I wouldn't be in business today. We, as black people, need to come together and support each other's businesses. It is essential for the future of the young generation
Q: Any tips or advice for young black people interested in starting their own business?
A: Always be yourself; be responsible for the decisions you make and the condition you are in.
Q: What can we expect next from your company next?
A: My next business adventure is coming this summer - a custom heat print design company
