Q: How would you describe your business or services?
A: Handy Helpers ACK is a full-service estate concierge business. I wanted to offer a service that eliminated the hours spent scheduling and keeping track of multiple services through different vendors by giving islanders and vacationers the peace that comes along with making one call, by giving us there to do list they can, "Consider It Done”

Q: As a black person entering the industry, how were you received as you were starting your business vs your treatment now?
A: Starting a business as a young black female came with its fair share of challenges, I was however blessed with great loyal clients in the beginning; this made the rejection and negative comments seem almost nonexistent.

Shy of a decade in service, the market has changed, more open doors and less scrutiny.

Q: To what do you attribute your success?
A: My success is possible through the Grace and mercies of Almighty God.

Q: Who is the most influential black person throughout history in your life and why?
A: The most influential black person throw-out history I must say is my late grandmother “Mary” Francella Williams. She was the definition of unconditional love, teaching us how to pray the reason for believing in God’s will and purpose. She instilled in us the value of being a good Neighbour and the peace of forgiveness. I can still hear her saying to us, “live in peace love each other be of good courage”.

Q: Why do you think it is important to support other black-owned businesses?
A: The closing of the racial wealth gap is extremely important, supporting black owned business will increase the number of times money circulates in the black community, this will in turn increase savings open doors to financial investments, property ownership and bringing dreams of generational wealth to reality.

Q: Any tips or advice for young black people interested in starting their own business?
A: My advice to a young black people is stay true to yourself, know your worth and value your time. It is better to let the sale pass, never lower your product quality to fit a lower price offered. Always remember your passion and vision are yours, discouragement will come with sharing, the person you share with does not have the same purpose as you so will not see what you do.
