SUMMARY:Save Our Island Home Community Information Session & Open House
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a Save Our Island Home Community Information Session & Open House\, an opportunity for Nantucket residents\, especially voting members of our island community\, to learn more about the future of Our Island Home and what it means for local families\, seniors\, and caregivers. These sessions\, courtesy of Friends of Our Island Home\, will share clear information about the proposed new facility\, the planning process\, projected tax impacts\, and why maintaining skilled nursing care on-island is so vital to Nantucket's future.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOur Island Home is a town-owned\, 45-bed skilled nursing facility that has long provided critical care for Nantucket seniors who require around-the-clock support close to family and community. Because of our island's remote location\, having a local facility ensures frail elders can receive care without being forced off-island\, otherwise\, families may need to travel to the mainland just to visit loved ones.\n\n \n\nAt these sessions\, we'll walk through what's proposed for a modern replacement facility\, the estimated costs and tax considerations\, and the steps required to move forward. The Town's current estimate for a new facility is approximately $134.5 million\, with a projected property-tax impact of about $0.16 per $1\,000 of assessed value\, roughly $512 annually for a year-round home valued at $3.2 million. Just as importantly\, we'll talk about the human side: the reality that many Nantucketers cannot leave the island\, families are not always equipped to provide complex care at home\, and access to nurses and home-health services remains limited.\n\n\n\nThis is a chance to ask questions\, understand the facts\, and take part in shaping the future of elder care on Nantucket. Without a path forward\, off-island placement or limited at-home care may become the only options for many seniors. Together\, we can explore how to preserve compassionate\, local care so our neighbors\, friends\, and loved ones can age with dignity\, right here at home.\n\n\n\nInformation Session Dates & Location\n\nNantucket Chamber of Commerce Office\n\nZero Main Street\, 2nd Floor Conference Room\n\n \n\nFebruary 19 | 4:30-6:00 p.m.\n\n \n\nMarch 19 | 4:30-6:00 p.m.\n\n \n\nApril 16 | 4:30-6:00 p.m.\n\n \n\nAll are welcome. Come learn\, ask questions\, and be part of this important community conversation about the future of Our Island Home.
