SUMMARY:Wavemaker x Dreamland Conversations: America at 250 – The Past\, Present & Future
DESCRIPTION:Join us at The Dreamland for "America at 250 The Past\, Present & Future\," a special installment of Wavemaker Conversations Live at The Dreamland.\n\nAs we mark the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence\, what should we celebrate\, what should we reassess\, and how do we move forward together?\n\nWavemaker host Michael Schulder will be joined by Yale History Professor David W. Blight\, one of America's leading historians of the Civil War and Reconstruction and winner of the Pulitzer Prize for his biography of Frederick Douglass. Douglass' speech at an anti-slavery meeting on Nantucket in 1841 launched his career as one of America's greatest orators and advocates of abolition. To get us started\, Blight will bring to life Douglass' most powerful speech of all\, "What to a Slave is the Fourth of July\," in an unforgettable way.\n\nJoining the panel are two of America's most esteemed journalists: Peter Baker\, chief White House correspondent for The New York Times\, and Susan Glasser\, staff writer at The New Yorker.\n\nTogether\, they will explore what we can learn about our nation today by channeling Frederick Douglass and the lessons of the Civil War and its aftermath\, and how today's journalists\, and the rest of us\, can harness those insights as we help write the first draft of the next chapter of America's history.\n\nThis event is part of the fourth Dreamland season of "Wavemaker Conversations: Where Curiosity Meets Hope."\n\nThis event is sponsored and made possible in part by White Elephant Resorts.\n\nGeneral Public: $59\, includes $50 ticket price plus $9 service fee\n\nDreamland Members: $50\, no service fee\n\nShowtime: Saturday\, July 4 at 11:00 AM\n\nLocation: Main Theater
