Monday, April 8th is the next installment in our 2019 Science Pub series hosted by The Linda Loring Nature Foundation (LLNF). Kelly Omand, ecologist and botanist with the Nantucket Conservation Foundation (NCF), will give the talk: "Aquatic Botany: Exploring Nantucket’s Pond Plants." Join NCF Ecologist and botanist Kelly Omand to learn about the fascinating plants in and around our ponds—there’s a whole underwater world and plenty of seldom-seen coastal plain pond shore habitat to explore. Get your feet wet and learn about how water plants from tape grass to rose mallow form the base of our pond ecosystems and boost the island’s biodiversity. Two native plant species not previously known to occur on Nantucket were found in the first season of our surveys. We’ll take a look at botanical highlights from a variety of ponds including Capaum, Squam, Miacomet, and Hummock. Science Pub is held in the newly renovated Saltbox Tavern and Table at 7 Macys Lane. Food and drink available for purchase. Free admission. Call (508)325-0873 for questions or more info.
