Artists Association of Nantucket Hosts 24th Annual Spring Sweep Art Auction with Affordable Finds

Artists Association of Nantucket (AAN) is inviting all community members to enjoy our annual Spring Sweep Auction, April 6 – 8, opening with a Bids & Bites kickoff reception on Thursday, April 6 from 5 – 7 P.M. in the Big Gallery, 12 Straight Wharf. AAN is indebted to this year’s Spring Sweep Chairs Leslie Bresette and Barbara Clarke.

The “Bids & Bites: Art Auction with Affordable Finds” preview party will allow guests the first chance to view the in-person art auction and start bidding.  As in past years with our in-person auction, there will also be a buy-it-now component, where a potential bidder may purchase a piece outright and take it home with them then and there. This year’s Sweep will also include a silent ticketed raffle of lifestyle items.  The in-person auction continues through Saturday, April 7, 10 A. M. – 4 P.M. with final bids accepted until 4 P.M. Art may be taken home at that time, or picked up between 10 A.M. – 2 P.M. on Easter Sunday, April 8.

“The Sweep committee has been working for months on this year’s event, and we are delighted to once again be hosting an in-person auction at the Big Gallery,” said AAN executive director Courtney Bridges.  “A fifty percent commission on each Sweep purchase will go directly to the artist, so it is a wonderful jump start for all of us so early in the year.”

“In 1945 our organization got its start in the same location, then called the Kenneth Taylor Galleries, and we’ve planned a hearty series of exhibitions there throughout the coming year,” said AAN artistic director Robert Frazier. “It is a true delight to be back on Straight Wharf as AAN celebrates its 78th year,” added Frazier.

“We are extremely grateful to the Nantucket Golf Club, who will be providing the light bites for the April 6 kickoff party and we have gone back to featuring the event’s signature Peeper Punch, developed and sponsored by Cisco Brewers,” said AAN gallery director Peter J. Greenhalgh. “Hosting this popular, long-time Spring tradition for the second year at 12 Straight Wharf is a true nod to our AAN history,” added Greenhalgh.

As an added plus for those interested buyers unable to attend in person, AAN is also offering an additional exhibition of separate art via 32auctions as the bidding platform. This separate auction, available exclusively online, will run in tandem with the in-person.

Spring Sweep at the Big Gallery and will also feature a buy-it-now componentwhere pieces may be purchased outrightif for instance they found a favorite artist’s work or didn’t have time to go back online. Th Online Auction will be available Thursday, April 6 through Monday, April 9.
