“This Jr. Artist student show fits perfectly within our mission to encourage and foster young artists,” said AAN executive director, Courtney Bridges. “We continue to be so impressed with the amazing and varied talent found among the young people attending our island schools, and the diversity is truly a credit to both the students and teachers. We are very proud of all the work, and our hope is that some of the participating students will someday apply for artist membership with AAN,” added Bridges.
The Lloyd Schultz Awards are presented in partnership with the Nantucket Arts Council. These awards were initiated in 1994 by the Schultz family in memory of Lloyd Schultz, who was educated at Mass College of Art and at the Institute of Design of the Illinois Institute of Technology. Schultz was a Massachusetts high school art teacher who summered on the island and helped advance AAN’s relationship with island schools. He was a member of our Gallery Committee, and his work is represented in our Permanent Collection.
AAN artist member Maura Wendelken served as the judge for the Lloyd Schultz Awards. She praised the quality of all of the students’ work and was equally impressed by the variety of the art submitted.
