Dark Sky Week: Please show your support for preserving Nantucket's starry nights!

The Select Board has declared April 13-20 to be International Dark Sky Week on Nantucket. AtheneumBookworks, and Mitchell’s Book Store are having special dark-sky theme book displays. Cisco Brewers pays tribute to our starry nights with its Stargazer Stout. And the Maria Mitchell Association and Nantucket Conservation Foundation are partnering with us on a special community stargazing event at Altar Rock.

Won’t you, too, show your support for preserving Nantucket’s starry nights during International Dark Sky Week, April 13-20

Here are a few ideas:

  • Display a Save the Night sign in your shop or office (CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD). If you don’t have a color printer, copies are available at the Chamber of Commerce.
  • If you serve food, offer a dark-sky theme dessert or drink.
  • If you play music, play some dark-sky theme songs. We can suggest some!
  • If you send e-newsletters to your supporters or customers, include a message about Dark Sky Week. We’d be happy to help you draft one.

To have meaningful change, everyone in the community needs to do their part to reduce light pollution. We hope you'll join us in spreading the word and showing your support.
